Why Canada

Safe, multicultural and with simple paperwork.

Canada is the destination where bureaucracy gets in the way the least. A course of up to six months needs no study permit — no long process, no heavy proof of funds, no risk of processing times overrunning your start date. That's why most adults we work with book exactly 12, 16 or 24 weeks.

For teenagers, the argument is different: Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world, and an international camp there puts your child in a class with classmates from dozens of countries.

The honest trade-off is work. A language course in Canada does not give the right to work, not even with a study permit. If your plan depends on working while you study, Australia is the destination that allows it — and we say so before you book, not after.

Cities

Where to study

CAD 2,120/month

Toronto

The largest and most diverse city. A strong financial district, big schools — and where LC is based. Harsh winters.

CAD 2,220/month

Vancouver

Mountains and ocean in the same view, and the mildest winter in the country. Large international scene; the highest cost of living.

CAD 1,580/month

Montreal

Truly bilingual — you can leave with English and French. The lowest cost of living of the three big cities.

Monthly estimate with shared housing, food, transport, leisure and utilities. Tuition not included.

Study permit

The length of the course decides.

Up to 6 months: no study permit. You enter as a visitor and study legally. Depending on your nationality, you need an eTA (electronic travel authorization) or a visitor visa.

Over 6 months: a study permit is required, with a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution (DLI), proof of funds and processing times that vary throughout the year. Minors in high school or boarding school also need a custodianship declaration.

Start at least 90 days ahead. People who start at the last minute usually lose the date they wanted, not the program.

FAQ

Questions about Canada

Do I need a permit to study in Canada?

It depends on the length of the program, not on the type of course. Programs of up to 6 months do not require a study permit: you enter as a visitor. Longer programs require a study permit, with proof of funds and a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution. Whether you need an eTA or a visitor visa to enter depends on your nationality.

Can I work while studying a language course?

No. Off-campus work authorization requires a program of at least 6 months leading to a degree, diploma or certificate, and courses made up only or mainly of English or French as a second language are excluded. Language students in Canada cannot work, even with a study permit.

When do courses start?

Language courses start almost every Monday, all year round. Teen holiday programs run in July and January. High school has two intakes a year: September and February.

How much does it cost?

It depends a lot on the program and the length, which is why we don't publish ranges: a number that doesn't match your case gets in the way. You get a closed quote after choosing the school and the dates. The cost of living per city is shown above.

Why book through LC and not directly with the school?

The program price is the same — we are official partners, and the school doesn't charge more or less because you came through an agency. What changes is having someone in Toronto, in the school's time zone, who has visited the place and can solve by phone what would take days of email from abroad.

Does LC handle the study permit application?

LC prepares the education side: choosing the school, getting the letter of acceptance, organizing the documents and explaining deadlines and biometrics. In Canada, immigration advice and the application itself are regulated activities, done by a consultant registered with the CICC (RCIC). LC's credentials are as an education agent.
